The 5 Worst Things You Can Do to Your Wrap to Shorten Its Life

Vehicle wraps are a great way to market your business. However, keep in mind that your vehicle is now an impression of the way you do business. You need to take care of that wrap and keep it looking nice. With the proper care, your Lake of the Ozarks vehicle wrap will have a nice long life. Here are the 5 worst things you can do to your wrap to shorten its life:

1. Letting Grease, Dirt and Grime Set.

Especially in conjested urban or industrial areas, increased smog, pollutants and particulates in the atmosphere will cause reduced durability of the wrap. Cleaning your wrap regularly will ensure a longer life for your vehicle wrap in Jefferson City, Columbia or the Lake of the Ozarks.

2. Leaving It Out In the Sun All Day.

At ProDezigns we do apply a laminate to protect the vinyl from abrasions and UV rays, but over exposure to the sun could result in a shorter life for your vehicle wrap. At high elevations, such as mountain areas, the UV damage is increased versus exposure at sea level. The air there is thinner, so there is less UV filtering and damage increases significantly.

3. Taking It Through An Automated Car Wash.

Avoid the automated brush washes. The brushes may catch the edge of the decal or graphics and create a failure point. The brushes could also cause scratches on your vehicle wrap. The best way to clean a vehicle wrap is the old fashioned way, by hand. Use a mild detergent and water mix with a soft cloth or sponge. Make sure the detergent you use is free of abrasive components, has a pH balance between 3 and 11, and be free of strong solvents or alcohols. Be sure to rinse the vinyl thoroughly with clean water when finished and allow the water to dry naturally.

4. Using a Pressure Washer.

Excessive pressure or spraying at the wrong angle with a pressure washer can cause damage and create failure points in your graphics. If you must use a pressure washer make sure the pressure is below 1200 psi and the temperature is below 180 degrees F. You should also keep the nozzle at least 12 inches away from the edges and keep it perpendicular to the graphic. The best option is to just wash it by hand to not risk damage.

5. Applying Non-Approved Wax.

While wax may make your car shine, that's not always the case with vehicle wraps. It is important that you choose a wax that will not harm the vinyl. Make sure the wax you're using does not contain petroleum distillates. Products like Turtle Wax Ice are actually a combination waterless wash and wax, and are a great option as long as the vehicle isn't too dirty. Using a proper wax can increase the life of your vehicle wrap by providing added UV protection.
