Prepping Your Vehicle for Wrapping

Vehicle wraps are a great way to market your business or just show off your personal style! If you're thinking about getting your vehicle wrapped, there are a few things you can do to prep it. Here's what you should do prior to wrapping your vehicle at the Lake of the Ozarks to ensure the best wrap job possible:

1. Fix Any Damage Prior to Wrapping.

If you think your vehicle wrap is going to just cover up those dings and dents, you're unfortunately mistaken. The wrap will cling and form to fit around the shape that your vehicle is, and those damaged areas could cause the wrap to bubble up and possibly fail prior to the expected life. It can still be wrapped, but don't be surprised if the wrap starts coming up early in those areas. Before having your vehicle wrapped, you're going to want to take it to a body shop to get that damage fixed. The vinyl used to wrap vehicles will adhere to your vehicle better if it's applied to a smooth surface. In addition, it you've recently had body work done, where they repainted areas, you're going to want to wait 30 days before wrapping your vehicle. While vehicle wraps will actually protect a good paint job, that paint has to be completely dry and it takes 30 days for paint to cure properly. If you don't wait, when the wrap is removed, those paint spots could come up with it.

2. Wash Your Vehicle (But Don't Wax It).

In order for a quality installation and to ensure a long-lasting vehicle wrap, your vehicle needs to be clean. You don't want small dirt and particles getting wedged between the wrap and the vehicle, as that could cause bubbles and a non-smooth finish. Pay special attention to problem areas such as where the wheel wells meet the front doors, the back quarter panels, the bottom of truck tailgates, around the exhaust pipe and around the front bumper that may need some extra cleaning.  Use a simple soap and water mixture as opposed to harsh chemicals, as you don't want any chemical residue left on the vehicle. When you're done washing your vehicle, be sure to thoroughly dry it before attempting to have it wrapped. The vinyl will need a dry surface to adhere to. Moisture between the wrap and the vehicle can cause a shorter wrap life. You also do not want to wax your vehicle, as the vinyl wrap will not adhere properly to it.

3. Remove Vehicle Decorations.

Before wrapping your vehicle, any emblems, name plates, dealer stickers, rub rails (if rubber) and anything else that will interfere with successfully wrapping the vehicle will need to be removed. If your vehicle is currently wrapped or has any other type of partial wrap or decal, we'll want to remove those as well before applying the new wrap. We want to ensure a quality installation for your Missouri vehicle wrap. While you can leave things like handles, mirrors, bumpers, etc on the car and work around them, the more you can remove, the better wrap job you'll end up with.
