1. The Type of Printer
Obviously you have to have a special type of printer to print a vehicle wrap. There are however, 3 main types of wide-format printers that can be used to print on vinyl: solvent/eco-solvent, UV and latex.
- Solvent and Eco-Solvent Printers: The original printers for the vehicle wrap industry use extremely aggressive and "stinky" inks. They saturate the vinyl with heavy amounts of ink that take forever to dry. The main disadvantage of this type of printer is that without proper time to dry, they are extremely prone to failure. The heavy concentration of ink can penetrate through the vinyl and cause the adhesive to stick inconsistently, putting the wrap at risk of peeling or bubbling. Also, if these types of wraps are laminated too soon, the graphics will look cloudy, hazy or bubbly because the ink fumes get trapped underneath the laminate.
- UV Printers: Ultra Violet (UV) printers are not typically recommended for printing vehicle wraps due to the ink becoming brittle when dry. These printers are great for signage and window graphics, but when you try to stretch and conform it to fit around a vehicle, there's greater risk for cracking underneath the laminate.
- Latex Printers: Just like with any other industry, technology keeps improving in the vehicle wrap industry. The latest and greatest technology in the industry is the latex printer, which uses less abrasive inks. They are unique in that they use multiple fans and extremely high powered heaters to cure the ink as it is being laid down on the vinyl. This results in graphics that are 100% dry immediately after being printed. Due to the almost nonexistent drying time and the fact that the latex ink's composition is naturally more flexible than other types, this printer is ideal for applications requiring vinyl to conform or stretch around curves.
At ProDezigns, you can only expect the best! Take a look at how our latex printer works in this video below. Not only can we print on vinyl for vehicle wraps, but we can print on doors and other types of materials such as tile, wood, glass and more!
2. The Material You Print On
When choosing the material for your Lake of the Ozarks vehicle wrap, American made materials, like the 3M used here in our shop, are considered the best. There are a lot of replica films that are made overseas, and while they may be a less expensive choice, you're sacrificing the quality if you go with one of those. While the off-brand of macaroni and cheese might taste just as good as the Kraft brand, some things, like vehicle wraps, need to use name brand products.
3. How Its Installed
When it comes to promoting your business with a custom vehicle wrap, the only person you want going near your vehicle is an industry certified, professionally trained and highly experienced installer. You want someone that has the tricks and techniques acquired from formal training and years of experience. There's more to the installation process than just sticking the vinyl down and spreading it out across the vehicle. At ProDezigns, we start by cleaning and removing any waxes or other debris off the vehicle. This ensures the wrap will stick to the best of its ability. Next we remove badges, door handles, and head/tail lights to make the wrap as seamless as possible. Once the wrap is on, we post heat it to set the adhesive.
We strive to give our clients the highest level of service, which includes using the best products on the market to ensure a quality vehicle wrap that will last years.
