Watch Out for Car Wrapping Scams

At ProDezigns, we care about our customers and that's why we want to make you aware of a car wrap scam going on right now. Everyone has seen wrapped cars driving around with big name brands plastered on them. While there are in fact legitimate businesses that utilize this form of advertising, there are also scammers out there trying to tap into this growing market. Before going out and getting a Lake of the Ozarks vehicle wrap, unless it's for your own personal business, make yourself aware of this common scam!

Email Car Wrap Scam

The Better Business Bureau recently issued a warning about a car wrapping scam. The most common company mentioned in the scammers' emails is Monster Energy, but you could also find other big brands such as Coca-Cola and Heineken.

Here's how the scam works:
  1. You get an email saying that you could make $300 or more by driving around your normal route with your car wrapped in a company logo.
  2. You'll then be asked for your contact information and details about your vehicle.
  3. From there, the scam escalates and you'll be told you have an upfront payment coming. The check will apparently arrive for far more than the amount you're being paid. You're told that it is to cover the cost of designing and/or applying the wrap for your car and all you have to do now is wire the difference to the person handling the wrap.
  4. If you don't stop the process there, you'll be out however much money you wire.
  5. Even though you were able to deposit the check you'll find out later that it was a fake. It can take a week or more for your bank to notify you that a check you deposited was no good.
Overpayment scams are common, and not just with vehicle wraps at the Lake of the Ozarks. When it seems too good to be true, it's too good to be true!

Tips for Avoiding These Type Scams

  • No legitimate job will overpay you and have you send the balance elsewhere. If that's the deal, you can bet it's a scam.
  • Always be wary of work from home, secret shopper positions or any job with a generic title, such as admin assistant or customer service representative. Since these positions don't require training or licensing, they appeal to a wide range of applicants which is exactly what a scammer wants.
  • If you get an opportunity to make money via an unsolicited email, be extremely skeptical. Be sure to do some research online and see if anyone else has gotten similar pitches. Also check the real companies webpage to see if there is anything about the job listed there.
  • Be skeptical of any job or money-making opportunity in which you get the job or opportunity without any application, conversation or interview. A real company will want to talk to a candidate before hiring him or her.
  • Watch out for poor grammar and mistakes in the email. An ad agency working for a major brand isn't likely to send an email in broken English.

If you are going to wrap your vehicle, make sure it's done by a professional. Never wire money to a an unknown company. If you receive one of these emails, feel free to contact ProDezigns for a sanity check. We're here to give our clients the highest level of customer service!

If you can drive it, ride it, pull it, fly it, or lift it, we can wrap it!

Whether you think it costs to much or won't work for your business, ProDezigns is here to show you that those excuses don't hold water! Here are 5 bad excuses for not getting your vehicle wrapped:

1. Vehicle Wraps Cost Too Much

Vehicle wraps should be considered a marketing investment. Think about all the different ways you can or maybe already are advertising your business. How much are you paying for that quarter page ad or that radio spot? In comparison to other advertising mediums, vehicle graphics are one of the most cost effective methods of advertising. According to the Outdoor Advertising Association of America (OAAA), vehicle graphics cost about $0.77 per CPM (One Thousand Impressions) much less than TV, radio or print. At ProDezigns, we offer different packages at different price points to meet your needs!

2. I Can't Go Without a Vehicle Long Enough to Wrap It

Unlike with custom paint jobs, a Lake of the Ozarks vehicle wrap can be installed in as little as 1 to 3 days! Getting a vehicle wrap often takes less time that having your car in the shop. If you're really serious about getting maximum marketing results, it's worth the couple of days without that vehicle.

3. My Company Isn't Big Enough

You don't have to have a multi-million dollar company to advertise with a vehicle wrap. In fact, vehicle wraps can actually be more beneficial to smaller businesses. For the larger companies, vehicle wraps may increase brand recognition. For local businesses, you're not only increasing brand awareness, but you could be exposing your business to new customers that haven't even heard of you yet. You don't need a fleet to get your vehicle wrapped. Mobile marketing works, whether you have 1 vehicle or 500.

4. My Vehicle Can't Be Wrapped

Your vehicle is not too small or too large, too old or too new. At ProDezigns we can wrap almost anything. In fact, when it comes to new cars, a vehicle wrap can actually protect the factory paint job. Plus, we have wrapped everything from small cars to large semi-trucks. If you're not sure about wrapping your vehicle, consider investing in a wall wrap, window wrap, door wrap or more. Take a look at our online gallery for ideas!

5. The Weather will Ruin My Wrap

First off, if you take care of your wrap, it can last for many years. We have some wraps going strong after 8 years! At ProDezigns, we actually laminate the graphics to protect the vinyl from abrasions and UV rays. Also you should know that if your vehicle wrap were to become damaged, often times we can just replace that section of the vehicle graphic instead of the entire wrap.

The 5 Worst Things You Can Do to Your Wrap to Shorten Its Life

Vehicle wraps are a great way to market your business. However, keep in mind that your vehicle is now an impression of the way you do business. You need to take care of that wrap and keep it looking nice. With the proper care, your Lake of the Ozarks vehicle wrap will have a nice long life. Here are the 5 worst things you can do to your wrap to shorten its life:

1. Letting Grease, Dirt and Grime Set.

Especially in conjested urban or industrial areas, increased smog, pollutants and particulates in the atmosphere will cause reduced durability of the wrap. Cleaning your wrap regularly will ensure a longer life for your vehicle wrap in Jefferson City, Columbia or the Lake of the Ozarks.

2. Leaving It Out In the Sun All Day.

At ProDezigns we do apply a laminate to protect the vinyl from abrasions and UV rays, but over exposure to the sun could result in a shorter life for your vehicle wrap. At high elevations, such as mountain areas, the UV damage is increased versus exposure at sea level. The air there is thinner, so there is less UV filtering and damage increases significantly.

3. Taking It Through An Automated Car Wash.

Avoid the automated brush washes. The brushes may catch the edge of the decal or graphics and create a failure point. The brushes could also cause scratches on your vehicle wrap. The best way to clean a vehicle wrap is the old fashioned way, by hand. Use a mild detergent and water mix with a soft cloth or sponge. Make sure the detergent you use is free of abrasive components, has a pH balance between 3 and 11, and be free of strong solvents or alcohols. Be sure to rinse the vinyl thoroughly with clean water when finished and allow the water to dry naturally.

4. Using a Pressure Washer.

Excessive pressure or spraying at the wrong angle with a pressure washer can cause damage and create failure points in your graphics. If you must use a pressure washer make sure the pressure is below 1200 psi and the temperature is below 180 degrees F. You should also keep the nozzle at least 12 inches away from the edges and keep it perpendicular to the graphic. The best option is to just wash it by hand to not risk damage.

5. Applying Non-Approved Wax.

While wax may make your car shine, that's not always the case with vehicle wraps. It is important that you choose a wax that will not harm the vinyl. Make sure the wax you're using does not contain petroleum distillates. Products like Turtle Wax Ice are actually a combination waterless wash and wax, and are a great option as long as the vehicle isn't too dirty. Using a proper wax can increase the life of your vehicle wrap by providing added UV protection.

The professionals at ProDezigns will help you understand the best way to care for your custom graphics at the Lake of the Ozarks. Having nice clean, damage free graphics sends out a positive message to all who see your mobile advertising. Contact ProDezigns today at 573-392-0500 to start getting maximum marketing results!
